Following the loss to Crystal Palace over the course of the weekend, these are relatively nervy times for the Liverpool fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern.
Though the Reds are currently occupying a spot in the top four, Jurgen Klopp’s side have proved far from convincing and the fact both Manchester clubs are hot on their heels is certainly a worry.
It seems that injuries have been piling up for the Anfield giants at the worst possible time of the campaign, so there’s little surprise amongst our Liverpool-supporting locals in regards to reports from the Daily Telegraph.
According to their report, Daniel Sturridge may have played his last game for the club. The England international, who has constantly frustrated our punters due to his perennial injury problems, missed the loss to the Eagles with a hip problem and staff are not thought to know whether it will be days or weeks until he is once again fit.
Klopp is understood to be willing to hand Sturridge every chance to prove his fitness between now and the end of the season, though it’s reportedly inevitable that the club will consider any sizeable bid for him.
Last year, the Daily Star suggested he was raking in a cool £120k-per-week on his current deal, so letting him leave would free up some funds indeed.
As a result, our drinkers in today want the 27-year-old out. Undoubtedly a huge talent, the former Chelsea and Manchester City forward simply cannot be relied upon over the course of a campaign.
