While the January transfer window doesn’t always provide buying clubs with much in the way of value, shopping in the winter sales can occasionally go amazing well.
Indeed, Liverpool have experienced both sides of the coin in such matters.
The mega-money signing of Andy Carroll for £35m in 2011 was certainly one of the club’s worst deals, while the capture of Luis Suarez during the same window turned out amazingly well. One of the club’s best ever players, Urugyuan isn’t the only great January deal pulled off both those on Merseyside.
Honourable mentions go to the likes of Javier Mascherano, Daniel Agger and Maxi Rodriguez, though we’ve ranked Liverpool’s top five January transfers in the video below.
Atop the Premier League as things stand, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not Jurgen Klopp dips back into the transfer market this month. If he does, perhaps the Reds can pull off the kind of deal to push one of the aforementioned quintet out.
