Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards relaxed business approach seems to be working - Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards seem to have the perfect approach to business on Merseyside – getting the job done whilst sat back with their feet up.

According to Bleacher Report, the German manager is often seen chatting informally to Edwards in his office – which is directly opposite Klopp’s at Melwood – sat on a sofa with his feet up on the coffee table.

Liverpool’s 52-year-old head coach is evidently extremely results-driven as he continues to push his side further despite recently winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. However, his friendly and fatherly nature that he showcases with his players suggests he’s a superb manager to be working for, both as a player and a member of the Anfield hierarchy.

The revelation that Klopp enjoys an informal chat about the club’s day-to-day business gives incredible insight into the relationship between him and Edwards. Considering Brendan Rodgers ‘didn’t know he [Edwards] existed’ and believed only he should oversee any club strategies, Klopp will be a breath of fresh air in the sporting director’s books.

Edwards has not only managed to bring in world class talent like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, but he has negotiated impressive deals for some of Liverpool’s deadweight players. After a Merseyside nightmare, Christian Benteke was offloaded to Crystal Palace for £28million (Transfermarkt).

Not only this, Edwards impressed again with the clause added into Philippe Coutinho’s mammoth £142million move to Barcelona in 2018 – the Spaniards were only eligible to buy another Reds talisman before 2020 if a premium of £89million was added to any transfer fee (via Paul Joyce).

There’s no doubt Edwards’ intelligent, strategical mind and savvy business approach has earned him the trust of Klopp whilst also likely making the German’s life easier in the transfer market. Their laid-back work relationship definitely isn’t one to be writing up for risk of poor productivity.
