Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are hoping to see some more additions in the summer transfer window, as one of their stars already appears to be nearing an exit from Anfield.
Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers managed to bring some quality assets to the club during his time on Merseyside, with midfielder Emre Can being one of those additions. But, after witnessing the departure of Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window, it appears that the German may follow on in his footsteps. And, Jurgen Klopp hasn’t wasted any time in finding a possible replacement for his fellow countryman, as according to reports in the Sun, Klopp is eyeing a £20 million swoop for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.
The Liverpool boss is weighing up his options as Emre Can’s contract is set to expire in the summer and he is set to join Juventus for free.
Therefore, Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook has been viewed as a possible replacement for the German, after being watched by Kop scouts in a season that’s seen him called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad. And, it appears that the youngster has been a longstanding target for the Reds, having tracked his progress since leaving Leeds United two seasons ago.
Indeed, the England Under-20s captain became the first England skipper to lift a World Cup trophy since the glorious year of 1966, after their World Cup triumph last year in South Korea. And, having established himself as a regular at the Vitality Stadium so far this season, it appears that the Englishman’s long list of positives could go a long way to filling the large Emre Can void.
The Bournemouth youngster looks to be one of the rising stars in Premier League football, with his efforts on the south coast so far this season making him out to be a valuable addition for the Reds. Although, with the likely departure of the forever reliable Emre Can, there are still questions as to whether the Englishman can fill the large void left by the midfielder.
