Most of the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern would agree that the club desperately need to bring in players to strengthen their defensive cause this summer.
Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield has so far been undermined by the sewing motif of defensive frailty since he took over, though few would argue against the fact that the charismatic German has mightily improved their frontline. So, our resident Reds don’t quite know what to make of a story from Bleacher Report.
They claim the Anfield giants are among a number of Premier League clubs who retain an interest in Inter Milan Gabriel Barbosa. The Brazilian has endured a fairly miserable year over in the San Siro after moving to Europe from Santos, where he was touted for great things as a youngster.
Clearly a talented player, the 20-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in Serie A, though remains a ridiculously gifted prospect. Liverpool, along with the likes of West Ham, Swansea City, Everton, Southampton and Leicester City are all said to be keen on the man known as Gabigol.
While the forward may not command much of a starting berth with the Nerazzurri, the Italian giants are thought to be more open to the idea of a loan move, having invested heavily in him only last summer.
The notion of seeing a player as talented Barbosa developing under a coach such as Klopp is a seriously exciting one, though the 20-year-old may only endure the same sort of problems over at Anfield.
Unlikely to walk into the first-team, spending a year on the periphery of the first-team with Liverpool would do little for his development and probably only give Klopp another selection headache.
