Fate is nervously hanging in the balance as Liverpool’s date with destiny approaches.

Indeed, after the extraordinary turnaround against Barcelona, their chances of winning a sixth UEFA Champions League crown grew hugely in their favour. Obviously, the holy grail of the league might not be in their hands, but something equally as big is.

Champions of Europe, Manchester City won't sing that, after all...

So, after what’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Reds, their entire season leads down to two games. Jurgen Klopp’s men need continue in the same ruthless mindset that's seen them not cave to pressure which has given the club a bad reputation over the years. Easy, right? Well, the German and his men have made it look it at times, but that doesn't mean the potential for a slip up isn't there.

In order to avoid that, the German needs to stick with players with the strongest mentality.

This means Dejan Lovren cannot be played at any cost, considering how error-prone he’s been over the years. The Croatian centre-back might’ve provided some powerful performances, yet his tendency to switch off or create problems for his own side can lead the Reds into unnecessary pressure.

The self-proclaimed best defender in the world really isn't that good at all.

Lovren’s lapses in concentration, poor positioning ability and what can only be described as brain fades often lead to disaster for the Reds. In such a monumental occasion like the Champions League final, they cannot risk losing their heads. Loris Karius, anyone?

Joel Matip's unbreakable bond with Virgil van Dijk means that messing with it would only be stupidity. Lovren might have an edge in experience, but his overconfidence’s repeatedly led Liverpool into uncomfortable situations, which they simply cannot afford.
