Liverpool fans have not yet come back to the Transfer Tavern following their team’s humbling loss at Leicester on Monday night, but when they do there will be some cause for cheer with reports from SFR in France claiming that their side have a ‘small lead’ in the race for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
Speculation surrounding the Reds and a move for the France international has gone into overdrive since the Telegraph claimed late last week that Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen on the 25-year-old, and an interesting update from Ligue 1 expert Julien Laurens on BT Sport’s European Football Show has got some Kopites salivating.
Laurens revealed that Lyon may well sell their man for around £40m – £50m as they seek a big pay day, before going on to name the Merseysiders as potential suitors with the player himself supposedly keen on relocating to England.
And now SFR have waded in and although much of their information correlates with the aforementioned reports, they have gone as far as to say that Liverpool have a ‘small lead’ in the race for Lacazette, which is sure to cheer up punters when they do stroll into the Tavern later.
The Lyon ace has been in electric form this season with 22 goals in 22 league games, which is no flash in the pan as each of his last four seasons have yielded returns of over 20.
Given that Klopp’s side have netted a meagre 12 in all competitions since the start of 2017, while Roberto Firmino has only three in his last 13 games, the Les Gones star could add the potency the German’s XI has been missing.
