Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will agree with the comments made by a former legend when it comes to naming a player in their squad for this weekend’s Champions League final.
The Reds are preparing to face Real Madrid in the European showpiece on Saturday, and manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking to put his best team on the pitch as they try and win the competition.
The Anfield outfit have struggled with a number of injuries over the last few weeks, yet some have started to return back to training at the right time.
Emre Can is one of those that has started to resume training, having been struggling with a back injury since the middle of March, yet Reds legend John Aldridge has intriguingly remarked that the 24-year-old should not be selected for the match with the La Liga giants.
In his column for The Liverpool Echo, he said: ‘I’m not sure I want Emre Can in the squad for the Champions League final on Saturday because his heart isn’t at Liverpool.
‘It’s a tricky one for the manager. Do you use his experience now he’s fit or do you turn to people whose future is at the club?
‘He’s been part of the journey to this final but he certainly doesn’t deserve to start against Real Madrid.’
And these comments are likely to intrigue our resident Liverpudlians, many of whom have grown frustrated with Can over the course of the campaign such is his reluctance to stay, and agree with Aldridge that he shouldn’t be in the squad in Kiev on Saturday.
Landlord’s Verdict: The fans in the bar will be in agreement with the Liverpool legend, who had also stated that he felt the player was leaving the club for financial purposes, having agreed to a deal to join Juventus next summer.
The locals in the bar had been hoping the German would have signed a new deal to stay with them at Anfield, but will now what him well away from the match as they have managed without him since March.
