At the Football Transfer Tavern we always like a surprise, and Franco Di Santo has certainly been that. Once a Chelsea reject, the 23-year-old is now being courted by Liverpool according to the The Mirror.
At one time it seemed the forward was set to sink without a trace after failing at both Chelsea and Blackburn, but after reigniting his career at Wigan – to the point where he is now a fully fledged Argentina international, the player is now set for a big money move.
Brendan Rodgers has long been a fan of the player and the 23-year-old is a target for the Merseyside club this January. This is despite Wigan publicly claiming that one of their key players is not for sale under any circumstance, yet behind closed doors it is believed the club are bracing themselves for the potential departure of the striker.
Roberto Martinez’ side are contemplating a bid for Leeds Argentinian forward Luciano Becchio who would cost around £4 million. Becchio has netted 17 goals this season and would be a sensible signing in terms of helping the Latics secure Premier League survival.
