Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will play in an LFC Legends team against a Barcelona Legends side in a charity game in aid of the LFC Foundation next March, as per liverpoolfc.com.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com about his time at the club, the Spaniard said that he continues to support the Reds and that “The city, fans and club will always be in my heart”, a quote that was shared by Liverpool’s official Twitter channel @LFC in hyperlinking to the interview with the 35-year-old.

He would go on to score 81 times in 142 appearances for the Reds, but after handing in a transfer request prior to his January 2011 transfer to Chelsea, many Liverpool fans made their feelings known by heckling him and displaying banners conveying their displeasure during his Chelsea debut against his former club a few days later. (as per BBC)
Despite the nature of that transfer, though, these Liverpool supporters on Twitter preferred to focus on the quality he showed as a player for the club in this three-and-a-half seasons at Anfield:
Fantastic player the 1st modern day world class player that chose liverpool before all the other richer teams that were in for him. Unstoppable at his peak…the performances against utd makes him a lfc legend

We certainly have bitter Liverpool fans who quickly forget what Torres did for the club. Sure he left but it will never erase the memories of his time at Anfield. And fans who are upset that he left, don’t forget we got Mane and VVD from Southampton

Wonder if the same fans on here grill Rushy for going Juve way back when? I doubt it. Torres was awesome and wanted bigger things that at the time LFC couldn’t offer. Shame he flopped at Chelski but what a phenomenal striker at LFC

I think he was Pushed out by the Club, he was finished anyway and his stint at Chelsea proved it. Terrific player for us Torres in his prime was great to watch

Was gutted when he left but remember all those goals he scored for our club. Players sometimes changes clubs.

One of the best strikers to wear our top in the last 30 years, heartbroken when you left like all where but you’ll always be a legend to me #YNWA

Great player, players move on , that’s football. Loved him as a red. I’ll be made up to see him again. YNWA
