Many Liverpool fans expressed their admiration for Ben Chilwell's performance in England's 7-0 win over Montenegro in their Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley last night.

The Leicester left-back registered no fewer than three assists on the night, become the first England defender to do so in one match for more than 10 years, as Gareth Southgate's team clinched qualification for the finals in emphatic fashion. [via Sky Sports]

The 22-year-old was the subject of interest from Liverpool in 2016 (as per The Telegraph) but, as noted by football365.com, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was unable to land the defender, who had been recommended to him by David Wagner when he had him on loan at Huddersfield, only for the Foxes to refuse to let the player leave.

While Liverpool were unable to lure Chilwell to Anfield, they managed to sign another left-back in Andrew Robertson a year later. The Scotland defender has since won the Champions League with the Reds, for whom his performances have led him to be described as the world's best player in that position by Phil Neville (as per The Scotsman).

Following Chilwell's hugely effective display for England last night, these Liverpool fans on Twitter lavished praise on the 22-year-old who was once a transfer target for Klopp:

How good do you think Chilwell was against Montenegro and how big an endorsement is it of Liverpool's recruitment that they wanted to sign him before ultimately getting Robertson? Comment below with your views!
