Liverpool must hijack Mourinho’s transfer bid to complete midfield with £28.8m-rated man

The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are just about getting over the Champions League. However, while the events over in Kiev will live long in the collective memory on Merseyside, the imminent arrivals of Fabinho and Naby Keita have at least helped our local Liverpudlians get over it somewhat.

Whatever happens next season, the Reds weren’t champions of England meaning that there is still transfer business that needs to be completed this summer. With that in mind, Our punters would love to see Liverpool push rivals to the signing of Fred, who is valued at £28.8 million on Transfermarkt.

As mentioned, due to his terrific form this season, Fred is subject to heavy interest from Liverpool’s league rivals Manchester United. However, Liverpool are a team on the up and should they put their money where their mouth is, Liverpool could easily replace Coutinho’s void with another Brazilian in Fred.

Fred has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford of late and could very well end up going there, though the Reds should strike while the transfer iron is hot and try to swoop in. Jose Mourinho does usually get his man of course, though what’s stopping those at Anfield from trying to get ahead?

So why is so much interest surrounding him anyway? Well, this season Fred has continued to shine for Shakhtar Donetsk, scoring 4 times and adding 7 assists as well. The 25-year-old can play as a box-to-box midfielder or simply an attacking midfielder where Philippe Coutinho used to be for the Reds. Fred loves to pass and certainly seems the perfect match for the fast-flowing English game and it would be even better if Liverpool can pip rivals to his signature.

Do Liverpool have what it takes to challenge rivals Manchester United to the signature of Fred? Is he needed at Anfield?
