Liverpool must ignore star’s Man United past and make a January swoop to bolster top four challenge

Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are praying that Boss Jurgen Klopp comes through with some defenders this January.

The Reds have been in for a centre defender since the summer, after Virgil Van Dijk ended up staying with Southampton and the club not really having backup up plan, Klopp’s approach to this season is seemingly ‘we’ll out-score you’.

Even though this is entertaining to the fans and neutrals, our bar staff fear that this will leave them open for more repeats of the second half collapse against Sevilla, after being up 3-0 at halftime, the Spanish side came back to draw the game 3-3.

Again, for the neutrals this is great but the Kop End will pull their hair out at times, according to our landlord. This winter window gives Klopp a chance to bring in some reinforcements and steady up the back line and none are more accomplished in that area that former Man United player, Jonny Evans.

Since his move to the Hawthorns, Evans, in recent seasons has gained many an admirer in the likes of Man City and Arsenal, proving his class.

He’s won a lot at his time with the Red Devils and tasted the other side of things with the Baggies, so to buy a defender with any better game experience would be costing upwards of £50m.

Evans is still only 29 and is a natural leader as he already captains his club side and is influential while away with his national side Northern Ireland.

It wouldn’t be a crazy idea for Klopp to go in for the Ulster man and bring some experience, leadership and organisation to the Liverpool defence, which is well needed if Klopp wants any sort of success at his time with the club.

Liverpool fans, what’s your thoughts on bringing an ex-united player to the club?
