Liverpool fans should be concerned about Ben Woodburn’s lack of appearances for Sheffield United.

The 19-year-old is widely considered as one of Liverpool’s top prospects after making his senior debut back in 2016. Woodburn became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer after leaving the bench to score against Leeds United in just his third appearance for the club. He followed his exploits at domestic level on the international stage, becoming Wales’ second-youngest scorer ever behind only Gareth Bale.

Following the success of Harry Wilson’s loan at Hull City last season, Klopp opted to send Woodburn on loan to the Blades this summer with Wilson heading to Frank Lampard’s Derby County. While Wilson has been in fine form for the Rams, Woodburn has started just one in the Championship for Chris Wilder’s side. His development has stalled so much that the youngster was named in the starting eleven for Liverpool’s U23 team at the weekend despite being at Sheffield on loan.

It’s clear that the move to Bramall Lane hasn’t worked out as expected and Liverpool should seriously consider bringing him back to the club. It remains to be seen whether Woodburn can force himself into Wilder’s plans in the coming weeks and this difficult experience could actually prove to be beneficial. However, he needs to be playing regularly and should his game time not increase, Klopp should bring him back to Anfield in the New Year.

Plenty of clubs would love to have Woodburn featuring for them on a regular basis, and increased first-team opportunities is vital for his development.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?
