Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been using the last few days to look back at their side’s impressive season to date, and indeed forward to what could be in store for their team between now and the end of the campaign.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are well on course to record a second successive top four finish in the Premier League given they are third in the table with just five games to go, with their 0-0 draw at Everton on Saturday keeping them ten points clear of fifth place Chelsea. And after recording a sensational 3-0 win over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final last week, there is huge excitement among our resident Reds fans that Klopp is taking their club to the next level, thus setting up what could be some big years for the Merseyside giants.
As such, there are many happy and jubilant Liverpudlians in the Tavern at present, several of whom are hoping their side can finish the season strongly to build much-needed momentum ahead of the 2018/19 season.
In the meantime though, there has been plenty for our resident Reds fans to discuss, not least recent reports suggesting that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could seek to leave Old Trafford this summer.
And given the Englishman’s undoubted talent and potential, the Reds should seek to make an audacious move for the linked-away £45 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) during the close season.
Ultimately, the 20-year-old has enjoyed an incredible rise in the last two years or so, with the forward only making his senior debut for United back in February 2016, and performing so well that he has since gone on to make a further 114 appearances for the Red Devils.
And with 31 goals and 17 assists in that time, Rashford has certainly proven his worth to the Premier League giants, although has somewhat fallen down the pecking order since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival in January given he has started just once since the close of the window.
Yet Liverpool fans won’t need reminding of that one start, with the England international netting twice in a 2-1 win for Jose Mourinho’s side over their side, thus again underlining his qualities on the big stage having already scored against Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea in his young career.
And while Klopp possesses one of the most lethal front lines in European football at present in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane, it’s clear that the depth isn’t quite there for a side targeting major honours, with Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke leading the line against Everton on Saturday to further underline that point.
Yet Rashford’s arrival would give them even more pace and dynamism in the final third, as well as a quality alternative to any of the aforementioned trio, to the point that he would be pushing all three for a starting role.
And with the youngster possibly considering a United exit this summer, Liverpool must seek to make an audacious move for the supremely talented forward during the close season.
