Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are extremely wary about the final weeks of the transfer window, where many fans have come to terms with a likely major departure.
Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at Anfield amidst interest from Barcelona, who have a wealth of money to spend following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, and it seems likely that the Brazilian will move to the Nou Camp.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to keep the former Inter Milan ace within his squad for the forthcoming season, where Liverpool are battling to return to the Champions League following a 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim in the first-leg of the play-offs, but he needs to come to terms with the inevitable.
Coutinho’s head has clearly been turned and the money being offered for the South American is frankly ridiculous. Come next summer, Barcelona won’t have the same amount of money to spend and Liverpool’s focus should now be on getting the best possible deal.
Whilst the rising prices of transfer fees for Premier League sides mean that Liverpool will have to pay over the odds for a replacement for Coutinho, especially as selling clubs will know the figures the Reds have to spend, Klopp’s side can still secure a top deal.
Landing OGC Nice midfield Jean-Michel Seri would be relatively easy due to the player’s release-clause and Nice’s likely exit from the Champions League, following defeat to Napoli in the first-leg of the play-offs, means he’s increasingly likely to leave the French side.
