Over the years there have been some big name swap deals in world football.
From Zlatan Ibrahimovic going from Inter Milan to Barcelona with Samuel Eto’o and £35 million heading the other way via the Guardian to more recent examples seeing Alexis Sanchez swap Arsenal for Manchester United as Henrikh Mkhitaryan made the move down to the English capital via BBC Sport, the swap deal has normally been a source for big-name transfers, and there could be another one this summer, if (albeit dubious) reports are to be believed.
The Daily Express report that Real Madrid are willing to offer Marco Asensio to Liverpool in exchange for Sadio Mane, who is said to be a player Zinedine Zidane is keen on as Los Blancos aim to rebuild their squad this summer.
Asensio, who the report claim is valued at £85 million by Madrid, has been a player long-linked with a move to Anfield with reports going as far back as December of last year from Diario Gol of Liverpool’s interest in the 23-year-old.
Of course, at just six goals and seven assists last season, Asensio is hardly the player that can replace the impact Mane made for Liverpool in a campaign where the Reds won their sixth Champions League title as the 27-year-old winger hit 26 goals and registered five assists in all competitions, and given the winger’s recent remarks to LFC Magazine via talkSPORT that he wants to become a legend on Merseyside, a move away seems extremely unlikely.
Madrid have been explosive in the transfer market, bringing in £272.7 million’s worth of talent via Transfermarkt so far, but given how important Mane was to Liverpool last season and his past remarks, he is one player who the Spanish giants are surely unlikely to add to their ranks this summer.
Liverpool fans, would you take Asensio if it meant Mane going the other way? Let us know!
