Liverpool spent over £170m to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp wasted no time in bolstering his ranks in order to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title. The German added Fabinho and Naby Keita to his midfield as well as signing Xherdan Shaqiri from relegated Stoke City. Liverpool finally addressed their goalkeeping dilemma by landing Roma’s Alisson Becker for a then world-record fee.

While this summer’s signings have made a great start to life at Anfield, Andrew Robertson has already established himself as one of their best buys in recent years. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the Scot joined the club from Hull City last summer for just £8m. He found himself behind Alberto Moreno in the pecking order but later made the starting berth his own following some fantastic performances. He made 22 appearances in the Premier League and five in the Champions League to help the Reds finish in the top four and reach the final of the competition.

According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are set to reward his excellent showings with a new contract. The Reds are looking to double his current earnings in order to tie him for the long-term future. The news would no doubt delight the Anfield faithful who have fallen in love with the left-back. However, conflicting reports suggest discussions would not begin until next summer.

Holding off talks makes perfect sense for both parties. Liverpool are in no danger of losing Robertson as he has four years remaining on his current deal and the Scotland international would be able to solely focus on his football. While he definitely deserves a new contract, waiting is the best move to make.
