Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are ecstatic after watching Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold reach the World Cup semi-final.

Henderson was crucial during England’s 2-0 win over Sweden which secured their spot in the last four. Leicester’s Harry Maguire opened the scoring before Dele Alli headed home his first goal of the tournament after the interval. Gareth Southgate’s men face Croatia for a place in the final.

Our regulars are hoping Liverpool’s transfer business picks up again after the tournament is completed. The Reds haven’t made a signing since the end of May when Fabinho joined from Monaco in a £40m deal. Indeed, the latest reports should worry Liverpool fans.

The Reds have reportedly opened talks with Aston Villa regarding winger Jack Grealish. Valued at £4.5 by Transfermarkt, signing Grealish would be Jurgen Klopp’s biggest mistake at Liverpool. While Liverpool need a creative midfielder to replace Philippe Coutinho, the Englishman is simply not the answer.

Grealish scored just three goals in the Championship last season, and Liverpool must target a higher calibre of player. Villa are also reluctant to let their prized asset leave for less than £20m which is far more than what he is worth.

Tottenham have also targeted the winger with Daniel Levy looking to exploit Villa’s financial woes. Liverpool would be wise to allow them to do so.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?
