It’s certainly no secret that Michael Edwards has worked some wonders during his time at Liverpool Football Club. He has secured some bargains and offloaded deadwood for far more than their worth, now there’s more news that fans are buzzing about.
Luis Alberto left Liverpool back in 2016 after making just 12 appearances in red and joined Lazio for a measly £4.3million (via BBC Sport). Brendan Rodgers brought the forward in for £6.8million in 2013 to help bolster Liverpool’s attack, but the Spaniard made very little impact in the senior squad, getting just one assist in 258 minutes (via Transfermarkt).
Despite a poor spell in England, Alberto has since shot up in market figures, now valuing at an impressive £49.5million (via Transfermarkt).
Fans have recently discovered that the midfielder has a sell-on clause in his contract that Liverpool are to receive 30% of any permanent cash deal Lazio make (via Goal).
Alberto has had a superb season so far with with the Italian side, and as such, Lazio are adamant on tying him down. The club will be offering the 27-year-old a new contract that features a whopping £87million release clause. Lazio are also slapping a hefty £69million price tag on Alberto in case they’re unable to keep him at the Stadio Olimpico.
A summer sale would see Liverpool line their pockets with £21million and fans are once again astounded at another ‘Michael Edwards masterclass’, demanding the club ‘build him a statue’.
