Following the conclusion of the U-21 EUROs, it is only logical that some of the tournaments most impressive stars have already been linked with a big-money move this summer, and Dani Ceballos is no different.
The Real Madrid midfielder was pivotal in a Spain side that went all the way and were crowned champions, and now Marca report that the 22-year-old is a player of interest for Liverpool this summer, along with Arsenal and Tottenham, as Zinedine Zidane has made it clear that Ceballos does not fit in the future plans of Los Blancos.
Ceballos has largely been a squad player since his move to the Spanish giants from Real Betis in 2017, playing just 56 games for the La Liga side and only scoring five goals and assisting two, with 28 of those appearances coming off the bench.
Despite Ceballos’ poor record for Real Madrid over the past two seasons, the young midfielder proved this summer in Italy that he is a player of substantial quality and that he could blossom into a top-class playmaker.
The 22-year-old started every game for Spain on their road to the final, scoring twice and assisting another two, as well as winning the most fouls, creating the most chances and completing the most take-ons as stats from Squawka show, and this is something Liverpool can benefit from.
With Jamie Carragher admitting to Sky Sports News last season that Liverpool were in need of a creative midfielder, Ceballos, who is valued on Transfermarkt at £27 million, could be the player to come in and fill that void which has been left vacant since Philippe Coutinho departed for Barcelona over 18 months ago.
After impressing at the U-21 EUROs for Spain and Real Madrid willing to sell this summer, Liverpool can seemingly complete their midfield with the signing of Ceballos heading into the new season. And considering how close the Reds came to claiming their first Premier League title, alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the youngster could help take the Merseyside club over the finish line in the 2019/20 campaign.
