Liverpool have made Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz their number one priority for the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Express.
The Premier League leaders are already said to be looking ahead to next season, with Havertz being identified as an individual who can come in and give Jurgen Klopp’s side a boost in midfield.
The Daily Express also states that, unsurprisingly, it is going to take big money to land Havertz, who Transfermarkt value at £81m. It remains to be seen exactly how much the 20-year-old is going to cost, but he is certainly a target worth pursuing.
If Liverpool do end up signing Havertz and he manages to replicate the form he showed last season, then Anfield could be in for a real treat. He scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances, helping Bayer Leverkusen to a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
So far this term, he has only managed four goals and a couple of assists. However, averaging 2.2 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game, the former being the highest in Peter Bosz’s squad (per WhoScored), the Germany international is still proving to be a threat in attack. The latter, meanwhile, would be the highest in Klopp’s ranks, showing further what Havertz has to offer.
Playing alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, perhaps in a 4-2-3-1, Havertz could cause havoc and make this Liverpool forward line an even more dangerous one.
Despite their dominance this term, Klopp will surely want to avoid complacency and strengthen his side further. Adding Havertz to the squad should help achieve just that.
