The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are getting over the recent exit of Philippe Coutinho by dreaming about who FSG and Jurgen Klopp might decide to splash some of their almost world record money on now.
With Virgil van Dijk already through the door, our resident Reds are hoping Klopp opts to strengthen both his defensive midfield and goalkeeping options, in order to whip the Anfield outfit into genuine title contenders. So, having said that, they’re eager for rumours and reports in that regard.
That’s exactly why reports emanating out of Italy have proven so interesting. According to Premium Sport, the Merseyside giants have registered an interest in Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman as a potential replacement for Emre Can. The latter has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus at the expiration of his deal with Liverpool and Roma’s Dutch midfielder is said to have emerged as a potential replacement.
Strootman has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United over the years, though big knee injuries have scuppered any move to Old Trafford. Undoubtedly a holding midfielder of wonderful ability, he’d be a popular signing amongst our local Liverpudlians, who want to see the end of Jordan Henderson.
Strootman’s long-term injuries haven’t appeared to have had too much of an awful impact on his game and his tenacious style would fit very well into Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. Having him and Naby Keita having doing the leg work, allowing Adam Lallana a free role, would go some way into replacing Can and Coutinho.
