Liverpool fans spent the summer of 2016 searching Mario Gotze’s name on their phones and talking loudly among themselves about the German playmaker, so with news filtering in from our landlord that the Reds are interested in an attacking midfielder they chased last year, the words “World Cup-winner” and “Dortmund” could be heard across the bar.
Alas, the Bundesliga ace is not the man in question, with Turkish outlet Milliyet claiming that Anderson Talisca is once again on their radar and has been scouted during his loan spell at Besiktas.
One Liverpudlian actively spat out a mouthful of his lager at this revelation (not the fact that we haven’t changed the barrel since Friday, honest), but there’s every reason for fans to be positive, not pessimistic.
Indeed, the Brazilian, who O Jogo claimed came close to signing for the club last year, has been impressive in Istanbul, scoring six goals and laying on two assists in the Super Lig in just 11 outings to help his side to top spot.
Milliyet reveal that a number of big European clubs are watching the 23-year-old, with Liverpool among them, hinting that he features in their plans heading towards the summer.
Further bulk is added to the story by Turkish-Football.com’s recent revelation that the Merseysiders have been assessing the player’s progress, too.
The attacker can play on either flank or as a central attacker, making him, in theory, an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s fluid 4-3-3 formation.
Given these nuggets from the boss behind the bar, the same Kopite who so disdainfully rid himself of his Carlsberg is ordering another and chanting ‘Anderson’ aloud. Modern football, eh…
