Rob Green joined another episode of The Debate podcast and discussed Liverpool's recent loss in the FA Cup and compared Jurgen Klopp's mentality to that of his rival, Pep Guardiola.

It was rather strange seeing Liverpool lose and then it was even more surprising to see that happen twice in a row, first against Watford in the Premier League and then against Chelsea in the FA Cup.

But with the Reds deploying a slightly rotated squad in a game against strong opposition in the Blues, Green believes there's a clear difference in mindsets between the two brilliant coaches.

Here's what he said on The Debate podcast (3/3/2020): "I think it's different. Pep goes to win every game. And he just has a different mindset that is, you play this way, and it's regardless of the opposition, and we are going to play and do it. And if we do it to the utmost of our ability, no matter who's playing, we will beat the opposition. So I think it's two different guys doing it their own ways, and there's not one right way one wrong way. You can't deny either of their success."

There's no denying that both Manchester City and Liverpool have different approaches but as Green emphasises, both game models seem to be rather successful and there's no denying that.

Besides, that's exactly what makes their rivalry so special - it's a clash of different mindsets and different personalities, both on the pitch and off it as well.

And sometimes, sticking to your own ideology might not work out for the best - as was seen in Liverpool's defeat to Chelsea - but that doesn't make Klopp's approach any less successful and the entirety of the 2019/20 season is living proof of that.
