Liverpool rocked as £20m World Cup hero deal scuppered by former club

Though the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have already been met with some good news today following reports they are about to land a highly rated German ‘keeper, the mood has suddenly soured.

That’s because, according to German publication Kicker, the Reds could miss out on Bayern Munich superstar Mario Gotze as former club Borussia Dortmund muscle in on the deal.

The 23-year old has been strongly linked with an emotional reunion with Jurgen Klopp, who managed him to great success with BVB in years gone by, who is now of course in charge at Anfield.

A £20m move from Bayern was thought to be on the brink.

He left for the Allianz Arena in 2013 in acrimonious circumstances due to the intense rivalry the clubs share and there was reportedly initial doubts about his return to Signal Iduna Park.

However, the report claims they have subsided and Dortmund will attempt to muscle in on a deal to bring their once prized asset back home after three years away.

The German playmaker is also said to have sacked the agent who is doing his best to secure a move to Merseyside, further casting the deal into doubt.

Just how big a blow will this prove to be for LiverpooL?
