Liverpool rocked in World Cup winner snub, will turn to fierce battle over lethal Man United target

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have decided to approach rumours linking them with Southampton players with an air of caution.

Amazing really that those punters can be so wise after rinsing Happy Hour dry, though indicative of the sort of cliental our famous old venue attracts….

Well, their wisdom is well advised.

Though Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne have worked out reasonably well since being prized from the South Coast, the likes of Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert have almost entirely flopped.

So, imagine the caution on the faces of the locals when reports in the Guardian suggested the Reds could make yet another swoop on St. Mary’s, this time for forward Sadio Mane.

Undoubtedly one of the most formidable attackers in the league on his day, the Senegalese has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.

The 24-year old has emerged as a hugely versatile attacker since arriving at the Saints from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014, as well as a palpable goal threat.

Still, there are few doubts that he is blighted by spells of inconsistency.

Now, after being snubbed by Mario Gotze, the Merseyside giants could make Mane their main man this summer.

Is Mane far too inconsistent to be bought for big money?
