Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win away to Tottenham.

The Reds dominated the proceedings for the majority of the game and took the lead in the first half from a corner with Georginio Wijnaldum netting his first ever away goal in the Premier League from a corner. Liverpool squandered a number of chances before Roberto Firmino smashed home after the interval. A late goal from Erik Lamela made for a nervy ending, but the final scoreline flattered Spurs.

Jurgen Klopp will be pleased to see his side create so many opportunities but knows his team should have been out of sight against the Lilywhites. If Liverpool are to challenge Manchester City for the title, they need to be ruthless in taking their chances.

Despite the transfer window being closed, Klopp should still be monitoring potential January recruits. One of which could be Ajax anchorman – Donny van de Beek. Valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, the youngster is a graduate of the club’s famed youth academy and is expected to have a bright future in football.

The 21-year-old was a key player for the Dutch giants last season, making 34 Eredivisie appearances. Despite playing in centre midfield, van de Beek was in fantastic form in front of goal, scoring 11 as well as assisting six for his team-mates. Despite his young age, he has racked up over 70 competitive appearances for Ajax.

Liverpool have a strong contingent of Dutch players already at the club with Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk enjoying crucial roles in Klopp’s team. Indeed, van de Beek could be the next Holland international to be a star on Merseyside.
