Simon Hughes discussed Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold with Steve Hothersall and James Pearce on The Red Agenda podcast and came to an interesting conclusion.
It doesn’t surprise that Jurgen Klopp’s fantastic right-back has received more endorsement from Hughes following another great game by the defender against West Ham. The 21-year-old delivered two assists on the day – one for the opening goal and one to complete the comeback – and remains one of the focal points of their line-up.
Hughes believes that he has already surpassed the legendary Dani Alves and is the best attacking right-back he has ever witnessed. He said for The Red Agenda podcast (26/2/2020): “He’s the best attacking right-back I’ve ever seen. I genuinely think he’s a better player than Dani Alves. Like he’s a better passer of the ball than Dani Alves. I don’t think you can stop what he does. I think he’s going to add more goals to his game”
Probably the most surprising aspect of this comparison is actually the fact that Alexander-Arnold is only 21 and practically has his whole career in front of him.
Who's the better player?
Saying that he’s already better than Alves might be pushing it a bit but, if he continues progressing, improving and performing as he has in the past couple of years, then the sky is the limit. Under Klopp and in this Liverpool side, that seems like a real possibility.
