Liverpool stalwart could be first major victim of Klopp’s Kop chop

Liverpool v Arsenal - Barclays Premier League

Our Liverpool supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern are imaging the Jurgen Klopp revolution with wide eyed wonderment, as ‘Kloppmania’ reaches fever pitch ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League semi-final clash with Villarreal.

However, with any major overhaul and arrival of new ideas, there looks as if there will be some major victims of the German’s attempts to craft a new squad in his image.

Martin Skrtel is reportedly among the first victims of the revolution, with the Liverpool Echo (citing reports from Fanatik in Turkey) suggesting he could be a target for Besiktas.

The Slovakien bruiser has been a mainstay on Merseyside ever since joining in 2008, though lost his place early into Klopp’s tenure in charge.

With Joel Matip set to link up with the squad this summer, the 31-year old could be forced further down the pecking order in defensive areas.

After proving such a loyal servant to the Anfield outfit over the years, perhaps the former Zenit St. Petersburg man could be entering the closing stages of his Premier League career.

Is Skrtel finished at Liverpool? Or should he be kept around as a squad option? Has he still got something to offer?
