Liverpool: These fans not impressed with journalist’s claims about Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been left bemused by reports stating that he had agreed a new contract with the club.

That is according to Paul Gorst, Liverpool FC correspondent for the Liverpool Echo, who tweeted via @ptgorst that the Reds have no plans to enter contract talks with the Netherlands international.

The Mirror had reported on Saturday that van Dijk had agreed a new six-year contract with Liverpool, with whom his current deal lasts until 2023.

According to The Mirror, the 28-year-old is set to see his current £125,000-a-week wage increase to nearly £200,000 per week.

However, the Liverpool Echo subsequently claimed that van Dijk had been left “bemused” by reports of a new contract and had not been actively seeking improved terms.

That is according to Gorst, who replaced James Pearce as the newspaper’s Liverpool FC correspondent last month, as per his Twitter channel @ptgorst.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t impressed with Gorst’s report and disparagingly likened him to his predecessor Pearce:

Do you think van Dijk would be justified in asking for improved terms at Liverpool if he felt like it? Share your views in the comments section below!
