Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we are always keen to hear of players renewing their contracts and hot on the news that David Villa is set to be offered an extension to his Barcelona contract, Mundo Deportivo have reported that another player is set to follow suit.
Former La Masia player Cristian Tello has just penned a new deal set to take him through to 2016 after the player managed to break through into the first team under Pep Guardiola last term and has continued to impress when given the opportunity this season.
Barcelona are widely regarded for bringing their youngsters through the academy ranks and only recently fielded a team of entirely home grown players (although as our landlord points out they did have to pay tequila shotting fees to bring back Cesc and Pique from their respected exiles in England!)
Whilst Tello’s contract has a 10 million euro buyout clause to fend off interest from a host of Premier League clubs – Liverpool included – one player whose buyout clause will be considerably larger is Xavi Hernandez who has opened talks with the club over extending his current deal. Xavi stated he was ‘very happy’ at the club and the new deal cost ‘nothing to agree’ between himself and the club he spent his whole career at.
