The dust is settling on a Premier League weekend that saw Sky’s ‘Merseyside v Manchester’ coverage take centre stage.
Indeed, Sunday saw four north-west footballing powerhouses take one another on as Everton beat Man City 4-0 and Liverpool grabbed a draw away at Old Trafford against Man United.
Coming out of the game many felt the Reds could have indeed won it after leading for a long period of time but even with a point, they should be happy enough.
Not only did they get a result against their arch-rivals who were the favourites, they got a welcome morale boost ahead of the rest of the season.
The Reds are level on points with 2nd placed Spurs – seven points behind Chelsea – and now the title race is really on.
For Liverpool, Sunday’s game marked the penultimate away fixture at one of the club’s title rivals. The Reds have just Man City to play away now and have the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal to all come to Anfield.
They also have more home games than away (ten compared with seven,) left this season and so this really does mark their best opportunity to win the league for some time.
There’s one thing they need to do though – buy players.
The squad is easily the thinnest of all their title rivals and eventually, you feel, that is going to catch them out.
That, though, is really their only weakness as they play some of the best football, score a lot of goals, have the advantage in the fixtures and are looking more sound defensively this year.
All things are pulling in the right direction for an Anfield title ceremony, then, as long as Jurgen Klopp and FSG get the extra options in during the next couple of weeks. It’s going to be a pivotal fortnight or so.
