The Liverpool fans are feeling optimistic in the Transfer Tavern due to the imminent arrival of Naby Keita, and recent reports from Italy have given them further reason to feel excited ahead of the new season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have shown dramatic signs of improvement as the campaign has unfolded and their recent form has given our resident Reds faithful plenty of reason to believe that a title-challenge could be on the cards next season. Liverpool will need to make plenty of wise decisions in the transfer market to ensure they can close the gap on Manchester City and go head-to-head with Pep Guardiola’s side for the top prize in English football, but they have already made one decision which is set to transform the midfield.
That decision was of course the one which saw Liverpool agree a deal with RB Leipzig for Naby Keita last summer. The anticipation for his arrival on Merseyside is growing amongst the Liverpool supporters, but according to reports via The Sun, Italian media believe that Paulo Dybala (valued at £90 million by Transfermarkt) is at the top of Klopp’s summer wish-list.
If Liverpool were able to fend off competition from around Europe to secure Dybala’s signature it would comfortably be one of, if not the most sensational signing of the summer window. Although Keita’s arrival has been the talk of the town in Liverpool this season, there’s no doubt that the hype surrounding the Argentine’s transfer from Juventus would far exceed that which Keita’s imminent arrival has created in recent months.
The signing of Dybala – who has won the Serie A title with Juventus twice in his career – would not only secure a worthy replacement for Coutinho, but it would also galvanise the supporters into believing they have the quality to top the Premier League table at the end of the 2018/19 season. And the supporters would be absolutely right to believe so, as Dybala is one of the most exciting and devastating attacking players on the continent.
It will certainly take an astronomical fee to prise him away from the Italian giants, but considering the enormity of the fee which saw Coutinho move to Barcelona in the January window, there’s no doubt that Liverpool should have the financial power to conclude a deal. Keita’s arrival at Liverpool will undoubtedly improve the club, but his impact would certainly be overshadowed by that of Dybala if FSG are willing to finance a transfer for Klopp’s summer target.
