Liverpool’s predicted XI for 2020/2021

With Liverpool on the cusp of lifting their 19th English league title, should the season resume, there aren’t many changes you would make to their starting XI. However, what would a predicted XI for the 2020/2021 campaign look like for the Anfield giants?

In goal, you can’t look past Alisson Becker, who according to Shaka Hislop is the best ‘keeper in the world. You could name Jurgen Klopp’s four defenders in your sleep with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Andy Robertson all making the teamsheet. The Merseysiders have conceded the least number of goals in the division, showing the strength of the quartet.

In midfield, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho have been a staggering trio. The England international has been tipped for the PFA Player of the Year award by presenter Richard Keys and has been a key figure in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, the Brazilian averages the second-most tackles per league game and his Dutch teammate has the third-highest pass accuracy, as per WhoScored.

It’s the attacking trio which would provide the biggest headache. While Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have scored 16 and 14 goals respectively in the Premier League, there are reports that the two aren’t the best of friends. The former has also been tipped by Gary Neville to leave the club in the near future if Barcelona or Real Madrid come knocking (Sky Sports via Daily Mail).

The club have been linked with £117m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, right-winger Jadon Sancho, who plays more key passes per league game and has more assists than Liverpool’s Egyptian king. It’s a move which would see the Senegal international retain his place in the team.

Liverpool won their first Champions League title in 1977 against Borussia Monchengladbach - who scored the Germans only goal of the game?

Upfront Roberto Firmino needs to be replaced with the Brazilian having scored just one goal at Anfield all season. The £72m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, Timo Werner has been linked with a move and having scored a staggering 27 goals across all competitions, he would be the perfect marksman to lead a potential title defence.
