Jurgen Klopp opted not to keep his chequebook closed until the summer in order to not disrupt Liverpool’s title challenge.

The Reds have made their best ever start to a Premier League season and the German believes that his current crop of players is good enough to lift the famous trophy in May. Klopp will welcome back Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of February and Liverpool fans are yet to see what Naby Keita has to offer the club.

However, Liverpool will return to the transfer market in the summer according to reports in the Evening Standard. Klopp still wants to add a creative midfielder to their squad after missing out on Nabil Fekir. With Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi also set to leave the club – targeting a new forward will be a priority.

Top of their shortlist should be Inter Milan superstar – Mauro Icardi. Valued at £90m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has developed into one of the world’s best strikers since moving to the Italian giants from Sampdoria back in 2013. Icardi was named as the Serie A Player of the Season after netting an incredible 29 goals in 34 appearances last year – the fourth time in the past five seasons he hit over 20 league goals. Unsurprisingly, the forward has been in red-hot form yet again with nine goals and two assists in the league already.

The 25-year-old is approaching the prime of his career, and there would be no better time to lure him to the Premier League. Alongside the creative talents of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Argentina international could score even more after moving to Anfield. The Argentine excels at leading the line, making him perfect for the 4-2-3-1 system that Klopp has often utilised this season.

Liverpool would have to break the bank to lure him from Italy – but as shown with spending big on Alisson and Virgil van Dijk – the price tag is worth it for this calibre of player.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?
