As per The Sun, Liverpool will make a move for Kylian Mbappe if Sadio Mane joins Real Madrid.
The report says that Los Merengues have already approached the Senegal international’s representatives as they look to take the former Southampton man to the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Reds could demand as much as £150m for him, and if he were to depart, they would go after Mbappe – although they would need to pay another £100m to convince PSG to part ways with him.
Mbappe is no doubt a wonderful player. This season alone he has 30 goals in 31 games, which takes his tally to 90 in 120 overall for the Ligue 1 champions.
However, Mane is a vital component of Jurgen Klopp’s side. He has 18 goals and 12 assists himself this term, won the Premier League Golden Boot last year, and finished fourth in the latest Ballon d’Or rankings. Losing him would leave a massive hole – one that would be difficult to fill.
More importantly, though, signing Mbappe would surely go against everything Michael Edwards and Liverpool believe in. They have long looked at purchasing up-and-coming stars rather than the biggest names – Mane himself came from the Saints, whilst Andrew Robertson was relegated with Hull and Mohamed Salah joined from AS Roma. The 21-year-old Frenchman may be a top player, but he is already known across the planet – he does not fit in with that policy.
Signing Mbappe would be tempting, but Edwards and co should know better.
