Jurgen Klopp is one positive result away from delivering Champions League football in his first season to the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern.
The Reds may have struggled to keep up with their own pace at times this term, though know a win (perhaps less) against Middlesbrough this weekend will be enough to see them granted entry to the continent’s elite competition.
Still, reports from the Liverpool Echo have dampened the excitement somewhat. And heightened the nerves of the Kopites propping up the bar.
They’ve revealed key forward Roberto Firmino will likely miss the game at Anfield on Sunday as a result of a series of niggling injuries. The Brazilian, so important to Klopp’s 4-3-3 system, missed the resounding 4-0 win over West Ham last weekend and faces a race against time to be in contention for the match.
He’s understood to have been absent from Melwood during yesterday’s training session, with Daniel Sturridge ready to be called upon should his teammate miss out. Though the latter hasn’t always been the most popular figure in the Tavern, his performance against the Hammers was encouraging.
