The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are fretting over seemingly constant reports touting star man Philippe Coutinho with an exit for Barcelona, so it’s fair to say these are nervous for our resident Reds right now.
Indeed, the Blaugrana are understood to be keen on the 25-year-old midfielder as they look to replace Neymar and Coutinho himself is reportedly open to a move to the Camp Nou, if a deal can be done amicably.
So, our local Kopites need some cheering up to say the least. Well, speaking of deals being done amicably, it seems our Merseyside drinkers will have to wait for some good news.
Having publicly apologised and dropped their pursuit of Southampton star Virgil van Dijk, recent news that the Dutchman had handed in a transfer request on the south coast has excited our Liverpool-mad punters.
There have also been reports the Anfield giants were ready to relaunch their bid for him, though comments from NBC Sports journalist Joe-Prince Wright on Twitter deliver a potential blow in their pursuit.
I was recently told #SaintsFC quite happy to let Virgil van Dijk sit in stands all season if they have to. This is VVD's final push for move

He claims he’s been told Southampton are prepared to let their star centre-back sit in the stands all season if they have to after the former Celtic man missed pre-season outings due to concerns over his state of mind.
As you can imagine, this hasn’t been well received by the Liverpool fans here tonight.
While Saints’ stance over the Dutchman is amicable, surely they can’t allow him to sit in the stands all season.
In sagas of this ilk, the player usually departs, it’s just a case of how much they get for him.
