‘My hero’, ‘Would love him ‘ – Most Liverpool fans would love to sign World Cup maestro

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been keeping a close eye on the World Cup over the past few weeks and yesterday the only player they were talking about was Ivan Rakitic. The Croatia and Barcelona star scored the decisive penalty in the shoot-out win over Denmark and the Reds all believe he would be perfect at Anfield.

The round-of-sixteen tie between Croatia and Denmark as a cagey affair. With the score at 1-1 before five minutes had been played it looked like being an end-to-end match with plenty of chances, however, the quick goals made the game more tense as opposed to loosening it up and eventually penalties were required to split the sides. It was Rakitic and co for Croatia who eventually qualified for the quarterfinals though.

The Kopites propping our bar up took to Twiter during the match to show their appreciation and adulation for Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic. The midfielder, who plays alongside Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, had a great game and had our Anfield faithful pining over him, calling for him to sign for the club and play his club football with Lovren as well as international football. If the club could pull off the Rakitic signing it would be huge for the club, although the fee required would be just as big.

You can see what our local Kopites’ made of Rakitic here:

As you can see, the Reds in the Tavern love Rakitic, and they’d love him even more if he became a Kopite this summer.
