Liverpool are top of the Premier League after three victories from their opening three fixtures.

After losing in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, Jurgen Klopp wasted no time in bolstering his ranks. The German spent £170m to bring Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri to the club. Liverpool fans will be glad to see their new additions looking great during their excellent start to the new campaign.

He might not grab the headlines like Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah but James Milner has been a pivotal player in the Klopp era and his exceptional form has continued. With just one-year remaining on his current contract, offering him a new deal should be made a priority for the Reds.

Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the 32-year-old has made over 150 appearances in a red shirt since leaving Manchester City on a free transfer in 2015. After spending the majority of his time at left-back, Milner proved his worth as a central midfielder in the previous campaign. He made 32 appearances in the Premier League as Liverpool ended the season in fourth. The former Leeds man was instrumental during their Champions League campaign, breaking Wayne Rooney and Neymar’s record of assists with nine.

With a goal and an assist to his name already this season, Milner will be crucial again if Liverpool are to compete on multiple fronts again. The former England international remains in top physical condition and shows no signs of slowing down. His knowledge and experience are vital, and Liverpool can’t afford to let him go.
