‘One of the worst footballers ever’ – Most Liverpool fans were fuming on Twitter last night

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern weren’t best pleased yesterday when they tuned in to watch England’s final group game against Belgium to see that not only had Jordan Henderson been rested for Eric Dier, but his replacement had been given the armband.

Liverpool fans have forged a rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur over the last few years as Mauricio Pochettino has helped to elevate the Lilywhites to a level where they can compete at the very top of the Premier League. It will have been bad enough for the Reds to see their man Henderson pipped to the England captaincy by Spurs’ Harry Kane, but then for Hendo to be dropped for the final game and Eric Dier to get captaincy has hurt them.

A second-string England eleven finished the game without mustering so much as a whimper to hurt the Belgian backline and a superb Adnan Januzaj goal early in the second-half settled the game. However, the Kopites propping our bar up are in agreement that if Henderson had been pulling the strings behind Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabian Delph in midfield then the result would have been different.

From these tweets, it’s clear that if Dier is chosen over Henderson again then there will probably be a full Scouse meltdown on Twitter and on Merseyside.
