After splashing a world-record fee (for a defender) on Virgil van Dijk in January, it seems Liverpool are now in a position to compete with Manchester United and Manchester City in transfer fees. Much to the excitement of Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern this summer, Liverpool seem ready to add to their already scintillating squad.
A report in Spanish news outlet, Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Liverpool Echo) has claimed that Liverpool have made a staggering £158 million bid for Real Madrid playmaker, Marco Asensio. While the bid seems quite unbelievable, if there is any chance that Liverpool could capture Asensio, Jurgen Klopp should take it.
In recent months, Nabil Fekir has been heavily linked with a move £50 million move to the club. His move fell through in the late stages and now reports have put Ajax midfielder, Hakim Ziyech next in line to join the Premier League club. However, out of the three players, Asensio fits Jurgen Klopp’s high-pressing, high-tempo style. The is one of the best young players in the world and looks as though he could turn into one of the best in the world.
The Spanish sensation signed a new six-year deal with a reported £442 million release-clause last season and it would seem very unlikely that he will be on the move.
Recently the Real Madrid man concluded that he will look to discuss his future with new Real Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui after the World Cup.
“When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection.”
“I’m glad Julen [Lopetegui] has signed up for Real Madrid [to become manager], after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him.”
A far-fetched pipedream for Liverpool fans but if at all possible, it’s one the club should definitely go for.
Liverpool fans, how would you feel if this transfer actually happened?
