Newcastle fans you need not worry at the thought of losing Jose Enrique because manager Alan Pardew has John Arne Riise in his sights. Riise could be on his way out of Roma in the summer, and fatty Ashley has the funds for him.
The Magpies are in the market for a new left-back because of the possible departure of Jose Enrique, who is being linked with a move to Liverpool, and manager Alan Pardew sees Riise as the perfect replacement, if a report in Corriere dello Sport is to be believed.
Riise previously enjoyed a successful spell in the Premier League at Liverpool before joining Roma in the summer of 2008.
The experienced defender’s current contract with Roma runs until the summer of 2012, and they could decide to cash in on him at the end of this season in order to prevent him from leaving under the Bosman ruling.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is ready to give all the cash from the Andy Carroll to reinvest in the squad. Pardew is lining up Riise as a replacement should Enrique be looking to move on in the summer. Pardew will want to avoid the fiasco in January when Carroll was sold and wasn’t able to find a replacement.
Riise has endured a difficult time in Serie A with a loss form and injuries hampering his time at Roma and it is believed he would prefer a move back to the Prem. Fans will remember his spectacular goals for Liverpool with a thunderous left foot. Newcastle fans will be hoping he can replicate this in the black and white shirt.
