Liverpool supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side suffer just a fourth Premier League defeat of the campaign courtesy of a 2-1 loss at Manchester United on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Red Devils just two points behind them in the division and eyeing up a fourth successive league victory, but a first half double from England international Marcus Rashford all but sealed the three points for Jose Mourinho’s side. The Reds did hit back in the second half when Eric Bailly put through his own net, but they struggled to break down the United defence, and ultimately fell short to suffer just their fourth Premier League loss of the season, in turn falling five points adrift of the Red Devils in the race for second place.
Subsequently, there have been many despondent Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, yet their mood may well be lifted by a recent report from Diario Gol, which details that their side are interested in a move for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.
The 32-year-old made the move to the Spanish capital back in 2012 after seriously impressing at Tottenham, and he has since gone on to make 245 appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s side, this all after a relatively difficult start to life at the Bernabeu.
Yet reports suggest that the Croatia international could be on his way out of the European champions this summer, with Klopp’s Liverpool one side reportedly keen on bringing the influential midfielder back to the Premier League.
However, Arsenal and indeed Tottenham are also thought to be interested in the 32-year-old, so it very much remains to be seen exactly what the future holds for the midfield maestro.
Landlord’s verdict: Luka Modric may not have made the greatest of starts to life at Real Madrid six years ago, but with 245 appearances to his name, there’s little doubt that he has had a growing influence on Zinedine Zidane’s side.
The 32-year-old has helped the Spanish giants win the La Liga title in 2017 as well as three Champions League crowns, yet he has recently been linked with a move back to the Premier League, and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are one side reportedly keen on the Croatia international.
And while the report also indicates that Arsenal and indeed former club Tottenham are interested in the midfielder, this news may well lift the mood among our resident Liverpudlians, several of whom remain disappointed following their side’s defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
