The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern do love Jurgen Klopp, though they aren’t always delighted with how he sets his teams up. Indeed, while the charismatic German coach has brought a fantastic brand of attacking football to Merseyside, the defensive lapses are seemingly just as frequent.
However, though their backline frailties are sometimes the stuff of nightmares, our resident Reds are prepared to take the bad with the good when it comes to Klopp’s sometimes amazing attacking line. With that in mind, reports emanating out of Spain have proven seriously unwelcome.
According to Don Balon, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is interested in Anfield chief Jurgen Klopp as Zinedine Zidane continues to struggle in La Liga, with Los Blancos facing the very real prospect of finishing outside of the top four this season.
With that in mind, the former Borussia Dortmund coach is understood to be one of the bosses on their shortlist and is thought to have already set a demand to the Spaniard. As stated in the report, Klopp is believed to have said he’d want James Rodriguez brought back to the Spanish capital, reportedly thinking the Colombian could play a huge role in his potential project there.
A fairly dubious report, though Real Madrid’s probable search for a new manager in the summer will likely leave a few big clubs twitching. Indeed, if they did move for Klopp – which isn’t something totally out of the realms of possibility – it would be easy to see why he’d want a player of James’ quality at his disposal.
