Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are feeling slightly nervous ahead of the final round of Premier League fixtures this weekend, what with their side still yet to mathematically secure a top four finish.
Jurgen Klopp’s men haven’t enjoyed the best run of form lately in winning just one of their last five league games, with that solitary success over Bournemouth intertwined with draws against Everton, West Brom, and Stoke City, alongside a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea last time out. And while the top four race is still on, the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town on Wednesday means the Merseysiders only need a point from their clash with Brighton at Anfield to seal back-to-back top four finishes.
Nonetheless, there are some concerned Reds supporters in the Tavern at present given their team’s recent run of disappointing form, although many feel they have enough to get past Chris Hughton’s side and thus clinch another season of Champions League football.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Liverpudlians to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from Mohamed Salah regarding his future at the club.
And with the 25-year-old playing down speculation linking him with a move away this summer, these comments surely represent the best news Liverpool fans have heard all season.
Ultimately, the Egypt international has been an absolute revelation since returning to the Premier League last summer, with Salah bagging an extraordinary 43 goals in just 50 appearances for Klopp’s side this season.
With 31 coming in the Premier League, the 25-year-old looks set to go on and win the Golden Boot this season, while his efforts in bagging 11 goals in the Champions League have helped the Reds to the showpiece against defending champions Real Madrid later this month.
Quite simply, what Salah has achieved at Liverpool this season, and indeed helped the club to achieve, has been amazing and completely helped to transform the club to one once again challenging for major honours.
In he, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane, Liverpool possess one of the most lethal front lines in Europe, and one that is still young and can improve in the coming years – that’s a daunting prospect for any opposition defensive unit.
Evidently then, the Reds simply cannot afford to let Salah go in the summer.
There has been speculation that Real are interested in the 25-year-old after his stunning campaign, but Liverpool simply cannot be in the business of selling their best players – they won’t ever get anywhere if they do.
Yes, they appear to have got stronger since Philippe Coutinho’s departure in January, but take Salah out of the team, and 43 goals as well as a whole host of assists go as well – the front three, who work so well as a unit, would also be no more.
Thus, comments from the Egyptian star that he is looking forward to the future with Liverpool is surely the best news Reds fans have heard all season long.
