Liverpool supporters have been making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2008 courtesy of a 5-1 aggregate thrashing of Manchester City in the last eight.
Jurgen Klopp’s men held a commanding 3-0 lead in the tie ahead of Tuesday’s return leg at the Etihad Stadium, although the Citizens got themselves right back into it early on through Gabriel Jesus. However, that was as good as it got for Pep Guardiola’s side as second half goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino secured a 2-1 win on the night for the Reds, in turn sealing a 5-1 aggregate success and thus booking their place in the last four.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled and buoyant Reds fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are fancying their chances in the semi-finals after drawing Roma on Friday.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Liverpudlians to get their teeth into, not least recent comments from manager Klopp regarding the future of Salah, with the Reds chief suggesting that he is ‘not worried about a transfer’ this summer.
And these comments will surely come as music to the ears of Liverpool supporters up and down the country, as the 25-year-old Egypt international looks set to play an integral part in the future success of the Merseyside giants.
Ultimately, Salah has been an absolute revelation since making the move from Roma last summer, with the forward bagging a sensational 39 goals in just 44 appearances in all competitions this term.
And with 29 coming in the Premier League, the 25-year-old is well on course to win the Golden Boot award this term, a further representation of the staggering campaign he has had upon return to English football.
Many were unsure about Salah’s capabilities in the Premier League after a testing spell at Chelsea earlier in his career, but he has put those doubts firmly to bed with 29 goals and indeed ten assists so far this term, not to mention the nine goals he has bagged in their run to the last four of the Champions League.
Evidently, as those numbers suggest, the 25-year-old has been a hugely integral part of Liverpool’s success this season and thus what they may go on to achieve under Klopp in years to come – he has struck up an exceptional partnership with Firmino and Sadio Mane up top, and looks like scoring every time he gets into the final third.
Simply, the Reds cannot afford to let the Egyptian star leave this summer, as doing so would plunge them back to square one.
Klopp is building something special at Anfield and possibly en route to taking the club back to its former glories – they cannot afford to let that good work go to waste by selling their best player, a practice they have been guilty of in the past.
So Klopp’s recent comments that he isn’t ‘worried’ about a possible transfer for Salah this term is sure to delight Liverpool fans and indeed put their minds at ease, as he is absolutely crucial to what the Reds are seeking to achieve under the German in the near future.
