Respected journalist: Liverpool clear to secure goal-a-game strike star for £40m+

The eyes of Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern turned a deeper shade of green than the landlord’s secret stash of absinthe on the weekend as they watched Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Zlatan Ibrahimovic bang in the goals for Everton, Spurs and Manchester United.

Even though Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have smashed a stunning 54 goals in the Premier League this season, they are short of the sort of the sort of goalscoring No.9 that creates raucous cheers around the bar, but French football expert Julien Laurens has chucked out a nugget of information that has one eager Kopite offering to get a round in for his boys.

Indeed, speaking on BT Sport’s European Football Show (below), Laurens had his say on Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette – a favourite here in the Tavern – who was linked with none other than the Merseysiders by The Telegraph last week.

Although he didn’t restrict his claims to the Anfield giants, the Ligue 1 boffin revealed that the 25-year-old could be on his way this summer, with £40m – £50m the likely asking price:

“I think he will go to England,

“Whether that is Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham – I don’t know. You will have to pay around £40m or £50m.”

This news is sure to have Liverpool fans bouncing, with Lacazette in razor sharp form this season after being excluded form France’s EURO 2016 squad – which looks a baffling decision now.

Indeed, the marksman has notched 22 goals in 22 league matches, and this haul is no flash in the pan, with the Les Gones star having exceeded 20 in each of his last four campaigns on his way to a Lyon tally of 119 in 262.

With a poster of Daniel Sturridge fading by a both in the corner of the bar, Lacazette could be the new man for the Liverpool faithful to sing aloud about.
