The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were lamenting their side’s performance last night, after they threw away a 3 goal lead to draw 3-3 against Sevilla in the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side could have guaranteed their place in the knockout stages of the competition with a win in Seville last night, and they looked set to be on their way to qualification at the interval. A brace from Roberto Firmino separated by a stooping header from Sadio Mane had put Liverpool in complete control of proceedings, but a second-half fightback from Eduardo Berizzo’s side ensured that match-day 6 will be an uncomfortable evening for The Reds.
In the aftermath of proceedings, the Liverpool fans on Twitter were understandably frustrated and quick to point the finger at individuals and use them as scapegoats for the disappointing draw.
Not for the first time this season, Dejan Lovren’s impact was scrutinised and slated by plenty of supporters, but despite the scathing criticism, there were a handful of voices of support for the Croatian.
It appears the Liverpool faithful are firmly divided in their opinion regarding Lovren’s defensive capabilities and last-nights second-half defensive capitulation performance has only served to intensify the feelings on both sides of the argument.
With that being said, here’s what the fans had to say about Lovren’s performance on Twitter…
Dejan Lovren is still getting paid to play football enough said

You know the one player I geinuenly feel sorry for tonight? Dejan Lovren.
Lad was absolutely sublime in every defensive situation but that won’t ever get highlighted because it doesn’t support the narrative.

Sevilla played a great second half. Ben Yedder was fantastic. I liked Dejan Lovren's performance, but our defense lost their heads for too long in the second half. Nothing more can be said about our fantastic first half, though.

We'll go nowhere and win nothing with Moreno, Dejan Lovren, no reliable GKs, no reliable holding midfielder(s) and no leaders. Going forward, unbelievable, not many teams better but whenever a team get in our face we cave in, sad really because we're so close to being a top side

Dejan Lovren was brilliant tonight

Joe Gomez is consistantly the best player in Liverpool’s defense game after game, but continues to being played at RB in order for Dejan Lovren to start at his natural position CB. Still after being MOTM as a CB for England against Brazil. No logic in that whatsoever.

If Dejan Lovren hadn’t of scored the last minute goal v Dortmund 2 years ago he’d be in the same bracket as Djimi Traore. Absolutely toxic. And people think Van Dijk Will solve Liverpool’s defence

Got to be said, I am now struggling to support a manager who still rates Alberto Moreno, Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson

Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan anchoring the back line is just brutal. Henderson is soft too.
It’s gonna be ugly on Saturday but my only solace is knowing the holy trinity will be there to send Dejan Lovren and that back line to the lord

Dejan Lovren – 7/10
Some may say he is in fault for us conceding three, I'd say not at all. He was part of a stinky defence today, yeah. But individually he did brilliant today.

#SEVLIV provides an entertaining evening! Firmino, Mané and Coutinho in tremendous form, and Dejan Lovren, he is the king! Totally on fire!
